Dermal Fillers Aftercare

Brunette woman smiles and looks down after getting dermal fillers to plump and smooth her skin

Aging brings wrinkles and sunken areas to your face. Dermal fillers is a cosmetic procedure that can smooth out wrinkles and fill in hollow areas of your skin to help you appear more youthful. Fillers are injections of a substance called hyaluronic acid (HA) that occurs naturally in the body. This substance helps improve the skin’s firmness and texture.

After getting dermal fillers, it’s important to take some precautions. For example:

Stay Hydrated

Drinking plenty of water will help maintain your skin’s health and appearance of plumpness. Water contributes to the suppleness of your skin and tissues. It is also critical for the production of saliva, which keeps your mouth moist and decreases your risk of cavities.

Apply Cold Therapy

You may experience some temporary swelling and redness after getting dermal fillers. Gently apply a cold compress or bag of frozen veggies to the treated areas to reduce swelling and alleviate any discomfort. Other than to apply this cold therapy, avoid touching or massaging areas treated with dermal fillers for at least 24 hours. Touching the skin can cause discomfort and inflammation.

Avoid Strenuous Exercise

Strenuous exercise too soon after treatment increases blood flow to the area, which can cause swelling and reduce the effectiveness of the treatment. Avoid vigorous activities for at least 24 hours after getting dermal fillers.

Avoid Alcohol

Avoid consuming alcohol for 72 hours after your dermal fillers treatment. Alcohol can thin your blood and result in more swelling and bruising.
