Let us be partners in breaking down the barriers holding you back from achieving the dental health you desire. Dental sedation isn’t just for those with dental fear and anxiety. It’s also helpful for those who have a busy schedule, sensitive gag reflex, issues with local anesthesia, and difficulty sitting still for long appointments.
Nitrous Oxide
Nitrous oxide, referred to as “laughing gas,” is our most popular sedation option available. The effects of the nitrous oxide is immediate and adjustments can be made to optimize your comfort. We gently place a flexible nasal mask that allows you to breathe normally and feel the relaxing effects (a feeling of calm and contentment). Once the appointment is complete, the nitrous mask is removed and the sedative effects quickly wear off. Nitrous oxide, being one of the mildest forms of sedation, allows the flexibility for you to resume your daily activities immediately after your appointment.
Oral Conscious Sedation
With oral conscious sedation, you’ll take a prescribed pill an allotted amount of time before your scheduled appointment. This is planned so that by the time of your treatment, you’ll begin feeling the calming effects of the sedation. As its name suggests, you’ll still remain conscious, so you can continue to communication with our team. We advise that you arrange for someone to take you home after your appointment as the effects wear off.
IV Sedation
Intravenous sedation is a good option for patients who experience more severe dental anxiety or fear. During this treatment, the sedation is administered through an intravenous drip that is monitored by a certified professional. We will be able to adjust the level of IV sedation to your specific needs, and the sedative will take effect quickly. Many patients who undergo IV sedation have little to no memory of their procedure.
General Anesthesia
Sleep Dentistry
This highest level of sedation allows you to achieve a sleep-like state for your dental procedures. This is often used with more extensive dental work such as complex oral surgery, consolidating multiple treatments into one visit, and patients requiring special care. We partner with a dental anesthesia team consisting of an anesthesiologist, a dentist, and nurse anesthetists to ensure your safety and comfort. You simply sleep soundly and awake after treatment is completed. It’s important to have someone available to take you home after your appointment if you will be receiving general anesthesia.
